The prairie dog is a small rodent that lives in North and Central America. These animals are not related to dogs, despite what the name would suggest, but to squirrels. They’re called dogs because when threatened they make sounds alike to woofing, and prairie for... living in the prairie. These animals dig holes with numerous tunnels and chambers, which can be inhabited by as much as fifteen thousand adult and young creatures. They live in colonies called “cities”, and are herbivores. A colony unites around 25,000 of these little guys, and eats as much grass as 100 cows or 800 sheep, causing great unpopularity with farmers who keep trying to weed them out. Prairie dogs can be found, in example, in the Badlands National Park in south-west part of South Dakota.
Sea otters are incredibly lively, adorable animals. They are usually found at rocky coasts in California, western Alaska and Kamchatka. These animals spend several hours each day grooming their fur. Dirty fur doesn’t protect from the deadly cold, after all. On the surface they usually swim on their backs, propelling themselves onwards with their tails. This is also the position in which they usually eat their catch. These sweet guys are also very social and playful.
