A year ago, Fujitsu surprised the world with a novel piece of technology. Granted, it was still in development mode, many people all over the world were excited about this single invention that could change the face of technology forever. I'm talking about a solar-powered laptop. Fujitsu's revolutionary prototype is set to take the world by storm when it hits the world market in the next 2 years.

A year ago, Fujitsu surprised the world with a novel piece of technology. Granted, it was still in development mode, many people all over the world were excited about this single invention that could change the face of technology forever.

I am talking about a solar-powered laptop. Yes, a company has finally stepped up to the plate and designed something that is considered the greenest piece of technology yet. From the design pictures showcased at Fujitsu’s 2011 Design Competition Awards, this sleek beauty features solar cells on the back of the laptop face and under a touch keyboard.

What I loved about this design is the fact that they made it possible (at least theoretically speaking) for the laptop to be used in bright sunlight due to the fact that it is meant to have an e-ink display, meaning that you wouldn’t experience any screen distortion while working in the outdoors.

Now, with the energy needs of the world today, I believe that this would be the kind of thing that is just perfect for emerging economies and the developed world that seem to have an insatiable hunger for energy. Each one of us has at least three gadgets that we use on a daily basis – a phone, computer and tablet. It comes as no surprise that with the newer technology, energy demands have gone through the roof.

Here are some solar energy facts you may not know about – this is a green source of energy that does not pollute the environment as compared to fossil fuels. It is 100 percent clean energy, and is found in most parts of the world. For one to operate a device needing solar energy you don’t need to have the sun out shining in its full glory – cloud cover doesn’t hinder absorption of solar energy as what’s needed are the ultraviolet rays which activate electrons found on a typical solar panel.

There seems to be an interest in solar power technology in the UK , perhaps due to the fact that this country is one of the leading producers of solar energy devices. I know that they are a massive industrial country just like the States, but I would want to see our government borrowing a leaf from this country and stop relying so much on oil.

I can’t wait for the solar-powered laptop to hit the markets. I think access to information is no longer a necessity and with so many people who can benefit from the opportunities found on the internet, solar powered laptops will be the perfect economic answer for many nations the world over.
