The media was born out of the need of disseminating important information and educating the people. Today it has grown so big, side by side with technology that it’s no longer limited to the newspaper and radio but also the television. The media for century have been an integral of public sphere till the revolutionary incursion of IT bringing forth the Cyber Sphere facilitated by the internet and the entire household of electronic media. The vast growth of the media leaves an average person with enormous information large enough to create awareness and shape his or her perceptive. The media is increasingly globalizing the local society and moving the world and its inhabitant towards the shore of homogeneity or what is better known as the global village. It needs little logic to surmise that the media has become an integral of the whole of today’s man and hardly can we escape its enchantment.

However the important role it plays in the society bought it some filters designed by the ruling class and politicians, filters that eliminates certain part of what the audience should know, certain part of reality, filters that determine what should be kept hidden and what should not be broadcasted, the real picture has become blurred and misleading to the innocent society, the media has become a prime weapon of the elite class not just to strengthen their position but to increase the gulf between them and the masses, hence the failure of national and nation building.

Media houses have become the lustful corridor, where the ‘power that be’ exhibit their capricious philosophies, strategizes in achieving personal lustful gains. The unfortunate part of the story is that the elite class is tapping into the vulnerability of the people, whose gullibility is unhidden, thus the media is meant to feed the public what the invisible hands want them to know.

In the revolutionary days of science and technology, we believe or are made to believe that we are advancing in civilization and democracy, but actually we are creeping into a Control system that can hardly be noticed. Often what the media presents is far away to be called a clue of the reality, illusion characterises news items and the truth has always remain hidden. Inspite the fact that the media is meant to be the mirror and reflection of the society but has turned into the machinery of leaders and the ruling class, instead of liberating; it is rather marginalizing, enslaving and enchanting thought process.

One has to thrust into the heart of the problem, why this problem persists? Answers might not be farfetched; it all goes back to the description of history and social structure by Karl Marx, who believes whoever controls the economic base, control the whole society. The media is a representation of those who control the economic base, thus exacerbating the tension between the rich and the struggling class. Since there is a gap of property between the rich and the poor, and media establishment demands wealth, therefore the poor has no option than to succumb to the desire of the rich. The field of psychology helps us to better understand the phenomenon, when lie is consistently and persistently repeated it sooner or later become truth.

Giving this premise, we have been made to see evil for good, disaster for success, injustice for justice; we have seen the propaganda displayed before the Iran and Iraq war, the gulf war, the Afghan war, the lies against Islamic countries and most currently in Libya and the war drum against Iran.

I was once terrified to see in the headlines of The Washington post ”US drone strikes kills two militants in Pakistan” one big propaganda word to notice here is Militants, however these drone attacks have drawn more civilian casualties than reportedly militants, and such will never be sold to the gullible audience in the United States. Here again, one see the filters of the ruling class censoring reports of civilians death, but rather selling stories of killed militants.

There is a strong link between the ruling elite and the government and such adulterated
